MICHAEL DE LUCA AND DANA BRUNETTI TO PRODUCE UNIVERSAL PICTURES AND FOCUS FEATURES’ FILM ADAPTATION OF THE #1 BESTSELLING BOOK “FIFTY SHADES OF GREY”
LOS ANGELES, CA, July 10, 2012—Universal Pictures and Focus Features today announced that veteran producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti will produce Fifty Shades of Grey. De Luca and Brunetti will produce the film based on E L James’ #1 Bestselling book alongside James. The announcement was made by Universal Pictures Co-Chairman, Donna Langley and Focus Features’ Chief Executive Officer, James Schamus.
In March, Universal Pictures and Focus Features announced the acquisition of rights to the entire Fifty ShadesTrilogy with Focus Features marketing and distributing the first film in partnership with Universal. To date, Vintage Books has sold 31 million e-book and print copies of the trilogy in English-language markets worldwide. In the U.S. alone, the “Fifty Shades” trilogy has sold over 20 million copies in e-book and print making it one of the fastest selling book series ever.
“At its core, Fifty Shades of Grey is a complex love story, requiring a delicate and sophisticated hand to bring it to the big screen,” said Langley. “Mike and Dana’s credits more than exemplify what we need in creative partners and we’re glad to have them as part of our team.”
“Michael De Luca is a dream producer, whose combination of vision, taste and fearlessness is the perfect match forFifty Shades of Grey,” said Schamus.
As an award-winning producer, De Luca has made his mark on some of the most critically-acclaimed films of the last few years including 2011’s Best Picture nominee Moneyball starring Brad Pitt as Oakland A’s former general manager, Billy Beane. Brunetti and De Luca served together as producers with Scott Rudin and Cean Chaffin on The Social Network which earned critical accolades, including an Academy Award® nomination for Best Picture. Brunetti and De Luca are collaborating with Scott Rudin on the upcoming Tom Hanks’ film Captain Phillips, the true story of a cargo ship captain held hostage by Somali pirates and rescued by Navy SEALs. Other film credits for De Luca include I Am Sam, Blow, Magnolia, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, Wag the Dog, American History X and Boogie Nights. Additional film credits for Brunetti include Casino Jack, 21, Fanboys, Beyond The Sea and Safe.

My vote for Christian is Alexander Skarsgard. Tall and hot, and he has the range to play all 50 shades. I can kind of see Alexis Bledel as Ana as someone else mentioned, although she didn’t originally occur to me. She does have the whole wide-eyed innocent thing going on, and it would be interesting to see how she does with the more grown-up version of Ana as well.
Alexisw Bledel would be PERFECT for the role of Anastasia Rose Steele. She looks Innocent, Quiet, Strong Wits, Alabaster Skin, Big Blue Eyes, the perfect slender body! hope she gets the part!

Hi, Like many, I cant wait for the movie to come out, I got a very vivid image of christian in my mind by time the 3 books where finished, first I kepth thinking of Ian Somerhalder, he is fine, in a sexy kind of smouldering way which I thought he would be great for the role, but I have recently started to watch that new show on sky 1 called arrow and oh my god the guy who place olly in it (Stephen Amell) he is the exact image I had in my head of Christian Grey, Everytime I watch him I think Christian, he is perfect for the role, you should check him out on google, after you put his name in go to images and you will see what I mean…… CEO/DOMINANT all the way just perfection
Please Please when making this movie don’t let show business mess with your words. I don’t really see anyone famous being tied to the leading roles. I hope for a new fresh group of people so they can not be compared to other roles. Also please put them under contract for all 3 movies. I would hate to see someone drop out and a new actor step in. I hope you can release more books. I found your story to be fresh and real. Thank you for Fifty Shades.

I think I might jump in here and say that Jonathan Rhys Meyers would make a wonderful Mr. Grey. If you don’t know him, he played King Henry VIII in the series The Tudors. He’s already got the eyes…..the looks….and the power to dominate in him because of playing Henry…oooh yes…..i can just see him barefoot in those ripped up jeans….geez…..

I want to know how they are going to get away with all the SEX that is in these books. Not to mention the S&M scenes. I can only imagine a half done movie because they can’t put all that lovely stuff on film without being Xrated. The love story is great on its own but would not be the same if they couldn’t show details to explain his dark side.
As I would LOVE to see some of my favorite actors/actresses on the big screen in these character roles, I do in a way believe that maybe unknowns should be chosen as to not tarnish the feelings we all have about the characters.
If they DO decide to go with famous people, they REALLY need to watch out who they choose. The actors HAVE to be believable for what E.L. James’s ideas of the characters were when she wrote them. We as readers also have a view of what these people should look like and behave like, so the powers that be HAVE to choose people that can handle the roles…..sex and all ….if they can put that in.
Ian Somerhalder from Vampire diaries would be the best Christian Grey and Lucy Hale from Pretty little liars would be amazing for Anastasia Steel!!
Everyone’s been talking about their choice to play Christian Grey. I agree with some people on here and it should be Ian Somerhaulder. As for Anastasia I think Jennifer Lawrence would be a good pick. Who ever gets chosen it’s going to be a great movie. The book was awesome.

I think Zac Effron would be good as Grey
I really think Christian and Ana should be played by relatively unknowns. I would love to see Kyle Schmid as Christian. With all respect to Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper and the likes, I love them but they are too old. We have to remember Christian is in his 20′s.
I think Ian Somerholder would be perfect at the roll of Christian Grey. I also think that Alexis Bledel would be great as Anastasia Steele. We need someone innocent for her roll, but not too innocent to where it doesnt pull off or go well. It’s got to be a perfect match like with the books. I was talking with many people on how we think it would be a great idea if there more or a book or books to what Christian is thinking & his thoughts, as at the end of Fifty Shades Freed. It gave what Christan’s erotic thoughts were on his first meeting with Ana, & it was erotic. I think this could add more Erotica to an already erotic start to this Fifty Shades of Grey boom.
When i first read the book i though robert pattinson would make a fab christian gray but i would as i love him lol but now i think kellan lutz would be better as he has the body for it as for ana i think it should be someone thats not well know it would make it better

I can’t wait for the movie. I have read the books several times and can’t get enough. I just hope they pick unknown actors. I don’t want existing actors, whom I’ve seen, tainting my perception of Christian Grey.
