MICHAEL DE LUCA AND DANA BRUNETTI TO PRODUCE UNIVERSAL PICTURES AND FOCUS FEATURES’ FILM ADAPTATION OF THE #1 BESTSELLING BOOK “FIFTY SHADES OF GREY”
LOS ANGELES, CA, July 10, 2012—Universal Pictures and Focus Features today announced that veteran producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti will produce Fifty Shades of Grey. De Luca and Brunetti will produce the film based on E L James’ #1 Bestselling book alongside James. The announcement was made by Universal Pictures Co-Chairman, Donna Langley and Focus Features’ Chief Executive Officer, James Schamus.
In March, Universal Pictures and Focus Features announced the acquisition of rights to the entire Fifty ShadesTrilogy with Focus Features marketing and distributing the first film in partnership with Universal. To date, Vintage Books has sold 31 million e-book and print copies of the trilogy in English-language markets worldwide. In the U.S. alone, the “Fifty Shades” trilogy has sold over 20 million copies in e-book and print making it one of the fastest selling book series ever.
“At its core, Fifty Shades of Grey is a complex love story, requiring a delicate and sophisticated hand to bring it to the big screen,” said Langley. “Mike and Dana’s credits more than exemplify what we need in creative partners and we’re glad to have them as part of our team.”
“Michael De Luca is a dream producer, whose combination of vision, taste and fearlessness is the perfect match forFifty Shades of Grey,” said Schamus.
As an award-winning producer, De Luca has made his mark on some of the most critically-acclaimed films of the last few years including 2011’s Best Picture nominee Moneyball starring Brad Pitt as Oakland A’s former general manager, Billy Beane. Brunetti and De Luca served together as producers with Scott Rudin and Cean Chaffin on The Social Network which earned critical accolades, including an Academy Award® nomination for Best Picture. Brunetti and De Luca are collaborating with Scott Rudin on the upcoming Tom Hanks’ film Captain Phillips, the true story of a cargo ship captain held hostage by Somali pirates and rescued by Navy SEALs. Other film credits for De Luca include I Am Sam, Blow, Magnolia, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, Wag the Dog, American History X and Boogie Nights. Additional film credits for Brunetti include Casino Jack, 21, Fanboys, Beyond The Sea and Safe.

My Christian and Anastasia are MATT BOMER and ALEXIS BLEDEL!!!!!! They are so perfect for the role! Matt is strong, sexy and powerful… and Alexis has that young, willing look! Please, please, please don’t let anyone else play those roles!!!

Amanda Seyfried, is small, pale, clear BIG eyes, beautiful hair! Alexis’ hair needs some major overhauling and her eyes are not captivating enough.
I just hope the people producing the movie realize, people fell in LOVE with the book as it is written, the words in the book. It is written like a screenplay, it has blocking and everything. I just hope they use the majority of the dialect in the movie from the book.
Just so it is out there when I think of Christian Grey I think of Eric Dane. He’s got the eyes and the curly untamed hair I just think he’d be prefect! I know he is older but it just works to me. I don’t know at least now his name is out there and maybe someone will see this and pass it on who knows crazier things have happened.
Christian Grey should be played by Garret Hedlund….. What do you think?

I personally think that E.L. herself should decide what actor/actress is best to truly showcase exactly what she was envisioning as she wrote the books. I would like to see the movie actually follow in line with the books as E.L. wrote them.

I think that Channing Tatum would make an excellent Christian!! I think he could pull off the darker side for the beginning of the story and then come to be the playful Christian towards the end. Can’t wait for the movies. Good Luck.

I would love to see Alexis play Ana I think she fits her so perfectly!! when i see ana i see her!! perfect match and for my christian either Chris Hensworth or Ian..i think it would be awesome to see the hensworth borhters play christian and elliot!! I think e.l. should let us vote!! just throwing it out there!! then we could feel included in the making of the movie and have some say in who would fit the charaters we love so much!! have read all three book and am starting for the second time!! The absolute best choice for Anastasia is Lucy Hale!!!! She is very natural and beautiful, and if you have watched Pretty Little Liars she has a little experience with dealing with a bit of an older man.. She has that very innocent look and feel about her that is perfect for the part of Ana. Matt Bomer I think will be the best Christian… Just google him in a grey suit that will be proof enough. And Elena should be Demi Moore or Angelina Jolie. Can’t wait to see how they will pull off turning these books into movies!!

Just went to the movies to see The Cold Light of Day and his expressions in that movie reminded me how Christian would look at Ana…..Papapaplease it has to be Henry….

I am hoping that someone will look at Matt Bomer from White Collar, the series, to play Christian Grey. If you have a chance to watch the series I hope you will see what I see and feel when I read the books with Matt in mind. Waiting very patiently for Ms James to come out with another intriguing set of books.

I very strongly believe KELLAN LUTZ fits the imaginations complete fit to this character. He’s big, tall, strong, sexy and mysterious. I think having some skinny unseductive male actor will ruin the character portrayed in the book
I would have to say that looks wise I think Liam Hemsworth would play a great Christian Grey. He has the eye color for one and he also can look very rich and dashing all suited up and also has that young boyish apearance as well that coincides with the Christian character. Hope you consider it.

I think a great actor to play the part of Christian would be Matt Barr. He played in Hatfields & McCoys and has that sexy, raw essence about himself. I think he could pull off the part quite well. I think Emmy Rossum would be a great Ana. Looking forward to the movie. I hope its as great as the books.

I have watched some video footage of all the actors that people have suggested to play Christian. So far, I can see Chris Hemsworth play the role perfectly. He’s 6 ft 3 and very well built.

Really enjoy ready these books just finished them all. But as for christian grey I can so see Robert Buckley as him he has the body, he’s flirty, he’s got that cheeky grin smile and defiantly looks amazing in suites. He’s a 10 outta 10 for Mr Christian Grey.

Colin Egglesfield would be a great Christian Grey however not sure if he will have a strong enough acting name to carry this movie. If he is chosen they will need to make sure the female Ana is strong actor to carry the role.
I personally think that the actors should fit the book descriptions ….. When it comes to looks …. Ian Somerhalder and Matt Bomer are great to play Mr Grey… they both look good in suits and have a cheeky smirk

Wow I take it all back, I’ve just watched a fan made trailer on YouTube with Matt Bomer – he’s now my favourite for the role!
No no no to all of the above! Christian and Ana will have to be newly discovered actors with not a lot of history. None of the actors mentioned before now do it for me as Christian. Ana is an innocent and a lot of the young actresses today radiate too much of a worldly, confident air and look too ‘hard’. If you’re going for mainstream talent then you’ll lose a lot of the innate personalities of the characters but to my mind then Jennifer Love Hewitt comes pretty close to how I envisaged Ana albeit slightly older! Kristen Stewart? God please no – she’s doesn’t do innocent and naive well at all! I think the role of Christian would be an extremely complicated and diverse one and would therefore require an amazing amount of sensitivity and expressiveness
Of course, if the film is going to resemble the book only very loosely then all of this is moot! Personally I do hope you remain as true to book’s descriptions as possible.

My Christian Grey is Ian Somerhalder and my Ana Steele is a brunette Ashley Benson. If you can’t get them to play it, the ones who will have to kill it and make the movie worth watching..

i think RYAN GOSLING MAY FIT THE PERSONALITY TYPE FOR CHRISTIAN, BUT NOT THE LOOKS. IAN COULD PLAY HIM HE HAS PERSONALITY AND LOOKS BUT NOT THE HEIGHT, iAN WAS THE FIRST PERSON THAT CAME TO MIND, BECAUSE HE SPEAKS WITH HIS EYES, BUT COLIN SEEMS PERFECT. I ALSO THINK THEY SHOULD DO A MINI SERIES ON HBO/SHOWTIME/ OR STARZ. TO FULLY CAPTURE THE CHEMISTRY AND INTIMACY IN THE BOOKS. WE DON’T JUST LOVE CHRISTIAN 50 SHADES, WE LOVE HIS ANIMALISTIC SEXUAL NATURE. THIS IS TOO HOT TO BE SEEN IN THE THEATRE.
Kudos to the Fifty shades trilogy. Can’t wait for it to come out on the movie screen and amke all of us drop in our seats! Though pretty well known faces were being debated on whose deserving to get the Ana and Christian’s Roles, the film would be it turn out to be way better if they’ll found the perfect people who are less predictable and unexpected; semi fresh faces would be also be wonderful! Someone that can be remembered in history as Anastasia Steele ; like Julia ROberts in pretty woman; Jennifer lawrence as Katnis; Kristen Stewart as Bella; and as Christian Grey like, Robert pattinson as Edward…High jackman as Wolverine…:)
