EMI Classics to Release Fifty Shades of Grey – The Classical Album

I am delighted to let you know that Fifty Shades of Grey – The Classical Album, will shortly be available for purchase.

EMI CLASSICS TO RELEASE
FIFTY SHADES OF GREY – THE CLASSICAL ALBUM

An official release curated by author E L James, featuring the fifteen classical music pieces found in the Fifty Shades book trilogy

New York – August 7, 2012 – EMI Classics will release Fifty Shades of Grey – The Classical Album, a 15-track album featuring classical music personally selected by author E L James herself and referenced in her bestselling Fifty Shades book trilogy.  The album will be available in the U.S. and Canada digitally on August 21st and in CD format on September 18th.  The album will be released internationally in both formats on September 17th.

Says James of the new album:  “I am thrilled that the classical pieces that inspired me while I wrote the Fifty Shades Trilogy are being brought together in one collection for all lovers of the books to enjoy.”

The three novels in the Fifty Shades trilogy (Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed) are published by Vintage Books and have sold more than 20 million copies in the U.S. (the trilogy has sold 31 million copies worldwide).  The books’ various references to classical music have spurred sales of the pieces mentioned – even going so far as to cause Spem in Alium, a 16th century motet for 40 voices by Thomas Tallis, to jump to the top of the classical charts in the UK.

Fifty Shades of Grey – The Classical Album aims to provide the perfect accompaniment to the Fifty Shades reading experience, setting a mysterious and alluring atmosphere with just the slightest hint of danger…the music on the album includes The Tallis Scholars’ sweeping version of Spem in Alium featured in the first novel, along with 14 other works from the books, such as the ‘Flower Duet’ from Lakmé, Pachelbel’s Canon in D, the ‘aria’ from Bach’s Goldberg Variations and more.  The recording artists include such world-class performers as Sir Simon Rattle, King’s College Choir, Barbara Hendricks, and Alexandre Tharaud, and the album features cover art based on the novels.

“We are delighted to be partnering with E L James and Random House on this project,” said Wendy Ong, VP of EMI Classics.  “The Fifty Shades books are a bona fide cultural phenomenon, and they offer an exciting new way to present this timeless music to audiences who might not otherwise be exposed to it.”

i just read the book, all three of them and i can see what the fuss was about from my friends, it blows your mind away, i love the way you write, so passionate that i have read the trilogy twice. i don’t think i can ever get over reading this book. i hope the movie is as good as the book, as it was not the same for the twilight saga. honestly, please write another novel from Christian’s perspective, side that is. You have to write another book, i beg of you. this was totally mind blowing.

  3. avatar Ewa says:

Congratulations to E L james, can’t wait for the movie or the album!!! Just wish everyone saw, that the book is not only about ,the out of this world sex scenes (I loved all of them) but about love, commitment, putting another person first and not letting go when the going gets tough. I love this book, I think I can safely say I’m obssesed. So many relationships start like that, but not many survive to the next step cause they don’t have what Christian and Anastasia do – LOVE
when is the album coming out?

  4. avatar CrystalGrey says:

Check out my name. LOL. Talk about a beautiful fantasy world. I was so stuck in the books that I could not put them down and I was out at 2am to find the remaining two books. I have never in my life enjoyed reading this much and I truly hope that there is more where that came from with Christian and Anastasia Grey. He turned out to be a fine young man, Wow. E.L. James you have my attention and I am now ready for more. Lol…just being funny but you have to become your readers “more” as Christian did Anastasia!!! Thank You for writing and keep them coming! Thanks-a dedicated reader_

    Mrs. James,

I love, love your trilogy. I’ve re-read it twice so far, though planning on reading it again.
I look so forward to the music. The mention above of Adam Lambert, is a great one.
Thank you for giving us all many hours of pure joy. I do pray you write a fourth book.
    God Bless

  6. avatar layla321 says:

    Mrs. James,

I have throughly enjoyed reading your entire trilogy. I am completely in love with Christian and Anastasia. You have transported my mind into light and dark. Your writting has such genuine sensuality, the scenes fly by as they both eventually share their feelings. Which was no easy task for Christian, he truely has fallen head over heals fo his lady lust. I haven’t bought the cd’s yet, yet I plan to. I’ve read the trilogy two times and plan to read them again, and again. Please oh please let there be a 4th book. I’d love to read more of what Christian keeps tucked inside himself. When the movie does come out I worry it will never equal the books. The book is filled with explict sex, and I can’t see that would be allowed on the move screen. An R rating would never do it justice. I would think it should be rated xx, and no one under the age of 18 should see it. Also I was praying the actor and actress would be un-knowns. That way we would concentrate on their acting, not on any known stars. Two un-knowns would clearly be perfect for the portral of this fantastic triloggy. Thank you for the wonderful hours you’ve given me to read and fall in love with this couple.

Oh what a tease! I just finished Freed and I am begging you!!!! Please write Christian’s version of the story! Those few pages were amazing! I want to read about what he was thinking every time his expression was unreadable. I am glad to read about other Fifty Shades’ addicts :) I am starting the first book again… I read all three in less than a week!

  8. avatar csshehan says:

Please keep this wonderful story going, there is so much more to explore. My great escape from reality!

  9. avatar southmissgirl says:

I love the Fifty Shades books!I think actor William Levy would make a great Christian Grey! Can’t wait for the movie!!

  10. avatar stacypan says:

    Is the CD already out?

  11. avatar vroula says:

Please do a CD with the other music in the books, Van Morrison, Kings of Leon, Dido etc.

  12. avatar rheyxiel says:

how bout “Your love is a king”? who is that a song??

    • avatar stacypan says:

That’s a Sade song. I made a post in the other thread that Ana could have chosen at least 10 or more Sade titles that would have fit her and Christian’s relationship. But I love her choice of “your love is king”. very fitting for the story.

    • avatar Peace6869 says:

there’s a link on you tube with lyrics you will know everything after knowing the words

  13. avatar anaisa says:

Exquisite album, love it. The books will really stay with me forever.

  14. avatar swanie says:

I have just finished reading the last book Fantastic!! But I have also just heard the BEST song for the movie sound track….. Kiss me by Ed Sheeran. You have to listen tot !!!!!!!!!

  15. avatar melodie812 says:

Awesome! As I read the books – each time a piece of music was referenced, I looked it up and added to my iPod in my own Christian Grey playlist. I was just now looking for a way to contact E.L. James to say that the movie MUST include the pieces noted in the book. It wouldn’t be the same without them. This is very cool to have a soundtrack, but also agree that a CD with the others like EVA CASSIDY (on my ipod playlist) and Sade should be created. Thank you for all of the beautiful music!! It MAKES THE STORY for me.

  16. avatar sweet and sassy bookworm says:

I miss Christian :( but because of this book i started my blog. I always loved to read and it seems everyone around me caught the ” Fifty ” bug lol! so here is my blog :

  17. avatar Mrs.Cope says:

I’m so happy this has come out. I had emailed you about this last year, but was unable to formulate how to bring it together. I’m glad it’s available now – I’ve already downloaded it to my iPod! Thank you!

  18. avatar ps_from_cali says:

Looking forward to purchasing the CD. Would like a 3 disc CD of every song mentioned in the books.

Was wondering why all the songs in the books are not listed on the Music tab. Would like to see a complete list of the songs.

And love love love the books. Romance, erotica, suspens, thriller, humor, family and oh so much more.

Maybe another book from Christians persppective? :)

    Great Job E!

  19. avatar bekkah says:

Delighted to hear about the cd – most of the tracks were on my iPod already so was pleased to come across references to them in the books!

  20. avatar lovelylu says:

I think you should do a book like “Christian, the beginning” to go further in depth in his background from birth and explore his relationships with Mrs. Robinson and the “subs”. that would be hot too.

  21. avatar Danelle says:

I finished reading the Trilogy for the second time. Love all three novels! Can’t wait for the cd. Wish there was a cd with all the music from the novels though! Have gotten my husband started reading them so he can see why they are hard to put down. Also can hardly wait for the movie! I hope there is another novel to continue where the last one left off or Christian’s point of view. Good luck and waiting with alot of antisapation for what’s next for 50 Shades of Grey!

  22. avatar ImanRuth786 says:

I am not usually a modern day romance novel reader, but I could not put these books down!!!!!! I read all three within five days — absolutely captivating! Wonderful job Ms. James!!!!

I agree with some of the aforementioned posts…it would be a wonderful idea to read this trilogy through the eyes of Christian. (The ending chapters —- “Meeting Fifty Shades” were a great insight but left me wanting more!)

I am actually sad that I have completed them already…and will definitely be reading them again soon. I have also ordered the soundtrack and looking forward to the music that I read about.

Thank you thank you for sharing your work of art with the world!

    Cheers,
    Iman

  23. avatar aakello27 says:

Benedict Cumberbatch is perfect Christian Grey. Give him a chance to audition, please!

  24. avatar erialC says:

    can’t wait to have a copy. I love the songs… :) it’s ecclectic… :)

just got my set of books (hard copy)…

btw, may I know the brand of lipstick (harlot) that anastia used?

  25. avatar Yvonne1997 says:

I am so glad there will be a CD coming out. I can’t wait to listen to each of the song especially Thomas Tallis.. I also want tot say that I have loved reading the trilogy. I’ve read them all twice, back to back, which is rare for me. I love the Christian character. Where is he? Than you E L James

  26. avatar swhitby says:

I love all 3 books could not put them down, when I was finished book 3. I wanted to start all over.

  27. avatar t310 says:

I just finished reading all three books. It took me 5 days, I couldn’t put them down. Like someone else mentioned, I tried to put the melody in my head when a song was mentioned but couldn’t place some of them. Having a CD will be a beautiful addition to the books. A lot of readers mentioned re reading the books and getting new information from the second (even third) read. I am tempted to read them again, my only hesitation is not being able to put them down again. However, it was a little bit of a tease ending Freed that way. It leaves you wanting more… maybe that’s the point? I hope not :)
