EMI Classics to Release Fifty Shades of Grey – The Classical Album

I am delighted to let you know that Fifty Shades of Grey – The Classical Album, will shortly be available for purchase.

EMI CLASSICS TO RELEASE
FIFTY SHADES OF GREY – THE CLASSICAL ALBUM

An official release curated by author E L James, featuring the fifteen classical music pieces found in the Fifty Shades book trilogy

New York – August 7, 2012 – EMI Classics will release Fifty Shades of Grey – The Classical Album, a 15-track album featuring classical music personally selected by author E L James herself and referenced in her bestselling Fifty Shades book trilogy.  The album will be available in the U.S. and Canada digitally on August 21st and in CD format on September 18th.  The album will be released internationally in both formats on September 17th.

Says James of the new album:  “I am thrilled that the classical pieces that inspired me while I wrote the Fifty Shades Trilogy are being brought together in one collection for all lovers of the books to enjoy.”

The three novels in the Fifty Shades trilogy (Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed) are published by Vintage Books and have sold more than 20 million copies in the U.S. (the trilogy has sold 31 million copies worldwide).  The books’ various references to classical music have spurred sales of the pieces mentioned – even going so far as to cause Spem in Alium, a 16th century motet for 40 voices by Thomas Tallis, to jump to the top of the classical charts in the UK.

Fifty Shades of Grey – The Classical Album aims to provide the perfect accompaniment to the Fifty Shades reading experience, setting a mysterious and alluring atmosphere with just the slightest hint of danger…the music on the album includes The Tallis Scholars’ sweeping version of Spem in Alium featured in the first novel, along with 14 other works from the books, such as the ‘Flower Duet’ from Lakmé, Pachelbel’s Canon in D, the ‘aria’ from Bach’s Goldberg Variations and more.  The recording artists include such world-class performers as Sir Simon Rattle, King’s College Choir, Barbara Hendricks, and Alexandre Tharaud, and the album features cover art based on the novels.

“We are delighted to be partnering with E L James and Random House on this project,” said Wendy Ong, VP of EMI Classics.  “The Fifty Shades books are a bona fide cultural phenomenon, and they offer an exciting new way to present this timeless music to audiences who might not otherwise be exposed to it.”

Like everyone, I’m eager for the CD. I’ve been listening to snips of it at http://www.greatclasssical.com/fiftyshades/ and find it very haunting. Not planning on seeing the movie. I already have Christian and Ana pictured in my mind, and no actor can compare. When I finished Book 3, I immediately picked up Book 1 and started over. I can’t seem to let them go….sigh

    • avatar lmcoul says:

I cant seem to stop either, for the first time in my life i honestly wish i read slower!! Anything she writes in any form, whether continuing the story or from Christians point of view i will seriously pre-order…i have never laughed and cried so much from such a beautiful story…

  2. avatar iampeggyc says:

I so enjoyed reading the Fifty Shades trilogy. The best. I would read a page and think about it for awhile and then go on to the next page. My heart went out to Christian immediately. I thought about it so much it took me forever to get through the three books. I enjoyed the second book the most. I was hooked and then couldn’t put it down. I didn’t want the story to end so soon. I am looking forward to the movie, but feel they won’t be able to capture your exquisite writing. I wish they could cast Charlie Hunnam from Sons of Anarchy Christian and long haired Julia Taylor Ross should play Anastasia from Saving Hope.

    Come to San Antonio, Texas.

  4. avatar ledgerina says:

So many beautiful thoughts here expressed about this trilogy is overwhelming…Thus far I have read these three times and each time I discover something new, exciting leaving me wanting more and more. I want “MORE”. Will definately get the CD, but as others have expressed would have been nice if all, not just the classical pieces, were included. Oh, what a treat that will be. I have been curious about the idea of getting the audio version, as would just love to lay back with my eyes close and litsen, and litsen. After reading the experience of some here I think I may just do so and ad to the 50 Shades collection! Above all, I am looking forward to the Christian’s perspective possibilities…Please Ms. James don’t leave us “wanton!”, and pick it up where you left us at end of Freed. Thank you!

    • avatar Mary says:

I thought I was losing my mind re-reading for the 4th time, glad to see others have re-read multiple times. Loved the music! Have a few pieces of the classical music and look forward to the CD when it becomes available in Canada. Loved ‘Laters Baby’ that is the coolest saying.

  5. avatar al0957 says:

I am really hyped about the album; however what I am really hoping for is the continuation of her trilogy that focuses on revenge form Mr. Lincoln, Leila, Prescott and many other combined with more hot and steamy sex scences.

  6. avatar LdyDior113 says:

Love the idea of the CD….looking forward in hearing it………I read the trilogy and I just watched “Wake” a movie with Ian Somerhalder…in my opinion….he is perfect for the part of Christian Grey…….he may be too thin as some people are saying…but on screen as well as TV everyone appears bigger than what they are……tomorrow I will be seeing him at The Vampire Diaries Convention..so I will check him out then in person… ;) hugs~~

  7. avatar Juana says:

OMG I will definetly read all of the books again with the music!! I just really hope E.L would write another book from 50 shades I just can’t get enough!!

  8. avatar yamadafaka says:

I’m so excited!!! The music was such a tender aspect to the series and I am looking forward to the release of this CD. I can already imagine Christian playing the piano in the background as I re-read 50 shades of grey. Oh how I hope in my heart that there will be more books from this series. Christian’s point of view!? <33333

  9. avatar ninabanas says:

Are you considering continuing the story through Christian as you did at the end of Freed??? Even though the story is the same it would still be thrilling to read his opinions, thoughts, fears etc!!! Is that something you would consider??? I would be rapt as I’m sure many others would be!! I felt a little short after Freed, when he had to wait AGAIN lol!! Thanks so much for giving us something to enrich our thoughts and fantasies!!!!

  10. avatar layde3bee says:

  11. avatar muggins says:

I’ve read the books twice now and tryin to imagine the music in the background was hard as I’ve never heard ov the classical music,so I’m estatic there bringing a cd out but I think it would be better with all the songs out of the books so u can lose urself like Ana does !!!!

  12. avatar sue says:

  14. avatar MrsDmb63 says:

  15. avatar lyra says:

Wow! it’s a good new. I would love too a CD with the songs of “your love is king”, “a little pray for you”, “I put a spell on you”, etc. All this music is exciting. And I hope that E.L. will surprise us soon with Christian’s version of story. I love how she finished it. She has left us wanting to know the thoughts of Christian!! LOL!!!!

    • avatar la50rodriguez says:

i know right i’m seriously interested in his version of how certain scenes play out like find out that shes pregnant or finding elena on his birthday covered in that deadly cocktail

    • avatar yamadafaka says:

I knoooow. I was so sad when I came to the last page, and then reading about Christian’s point of view made me so excited and hopeful!!! I truly hope that she does create another trilogy from Christian’s thoughts <3

  16. avatar Meliebean says:

I am so excited about the album. It allows the readers to enter the story on a whole new level and really relate to the characters.

  17. avatar pwstull says:

Have just finished audiobook for the second time. This story for me was life changing. I believe one of the problems with this whole thing is that it is being read by the wrong gender. It is men that should learn from Christian, Ana, and E L James. Thank you Ms. James for this wonderful, tender, insightful love story.

  18. avatar Jordan says:

I am so excited!! I just recently finished the trilogy and have been looking for the songs in the books on YouTube. Can’t wait to have this album on my iPod.

Please let there be more books about 50 shades… Regardless, whatever your next project is – I’ll be buying it!!

  19. avatar Amberg7hi says:

I am in love with all three books. Especially Fifty Shades Darker! I have to tell you that I delivery babies for a living and yesterday my patient and I talked about the book while she was laboring and after only two hours she had her baby. I am very excited about the CD! So any new books in the future? xoxoxoxo

  20. avatar chloerichards says:

Love the all 3 50 shades books! can’t wait for the film to come out! Hope you carry on writing the books in christian’s mind, would love to see what he was thinking throughout all the drama, please carry it on!

  21. avatar rachel.roden says:

    Per-ordered! Love it!!

  22. avatar kpeny says:

Just finished reading the books a second time, wow, they were great, hope you have more to come on Christains point of view, then with the kids and Kate and Elliot, their are so many possibilites where you could take more books. Just hope you will do it. Waiting for the next book or maybe books! The film and soundtracks I hope soon. El James congratulations on writing these books..

  23. avatar taritz.ph says:

Wow. I’d like to listen all of these tracks!! Excited to buy one! Btw, hope your next project will be the story of KATE and ELLIOT :) just curious about it.. :)

  24. avatar Valerie says:

    Mrs James,

Congratulations on the trilogy. When I was on vacation, all the women on the beach were reading your trilogy, so I got curious. At home I bought it myself. I’m not much of a reader, but I have never finished a book so fast, as your trilogy. I finished it in just a week of time. I found the story line very good and loved the books. Can’t wait for album to come out in Europe. And I agree on an earlier comment of someone else about writing the novels from Christian’s perspective. Also very curious about the movie, wondering about which actors would be part…

  25. avatar MMVolume says:

I heard so much about “50 Shades of Grey” but I just figured it was just one more love story, but EVERYWHERE I turned I would see the book in someones hand, so i decided to go ahead and read it, well after not even 1 week i was done with all three, i just could not put them down, i have started to read them again, there is so much to think about so much to read between the lines, i love the constant passion between Christian and Anastasia, even there names seem perfect for the story. I reall would love for your next books to be “Mr. Grey’s” Point of view. Everyday at work i put the soundtrack you have on this page from youtube. On our break at work i read the book to my coworkers and their face’s say it all. As you stated in your own words, this book is “taking the ordinary to extraordinary” Thank you for giving us this Love story, that has conected to so many people. it opens the door to expierance new things without all the taboos. My husband is going to start reading them, can’t wait =)and as to the CD, i can’t wait to get my hands on it.

  26. avatar ros says:

  29. avatar cathy d says:

    Ms. James,
I have been with you since the start of this trilogy since chapter 1.Looked forward to it in fact. When I heard it was being published, I was ecstatic for you. I read and re-read it contantly, so I pre-bought the books. Now, there is going to be a movie and a soundtrack. I just have to say, everytime I hear someone talking about your books, I smile and say” Well done Ms.James, Well Done

  30. avatar scottc1986 says:

I just loved the books. i was a bit skiddish on what i was hearing but then i read them… in a fast hurry i couldn’t put them down. There is a rumor going around that these books will come out in Christian Grays Narration.. Is that true?

  31. avatar Mala Tiwari says:

I have to say that I have enjoyed this triology so much that I have read it twice, which I have never done with any book before. They made me laugh, they made me cry for this young abused man. Wish there was another one in the series to follow on the kids. Looking forward to the music. Great Read

  32. avatar rjgrey34 says:

Now to re-read with the music will be even better!! Cant wait for the movies!!!

  33. avatar marielisa says:

    Oh Dios Mio que emocion!!!
    I can’t wait!!

  34. avatar mtayse says:

I really hope you use Snow Patrol’s song “The Lightning Strike” in the Movie. It’s perfect. Every time I hear it, I think of Christian and Anastasia’s relationship. Fits Perfectly!

    • avatar kiddo says:

I also think Police “Every Breath You Take”, Wrapped Around Your Finger’, & Rihanna “SM” would be perfect for the movie as well.

    • avatar jb1220 says:

I have heard a lot about Adam Lambert’s “chokehold” song but his “For Your Entertainment” song off his first album speaks exactly to Fifty Shades. Hope someone picks this idea up for use in a movie about Fifty Shades. LOVED and REREADING the trilogy! I, too, hope there is a series written from Christian’s perspective!

  35. avatar Nlc12578 says:

YEAH!!!! I just pre-ordered my copy. Please do a CD of all the other music too!!!

  36. avatar allysen says:

I am excited for the music. The bonus chapter with Christian’s point of view was a tease….I hope you write them with his point of view. Great books, looking forward to more!

  37. avatar SuperC says:

    Hi there,

Something to look forward in my iPod. Many thanks for the compilation. It’ll be fun to re-read the book with the music..

    SuperC..

  38. avatar kieshatuano says:

    I cant wait! :) <3

  39. avatar Natasyha says:

Congrats James, on your success of your books. Looking forward for the album too, as I lived in Malaysia I hope its arrive here by September/October. Will you be writing Christian’s point of view? Most erotic novelist they are more on sex or something towards on that subjects, the special part about Fifty shades are overall, family drama, friendship or even corporate world. Its like Judith McNaught with a touch of erotica.

  40. avatar Reeder says:

Love the idea of having the music to go alone with the book.

Also, wouldn’t it be cool if a new trilogy were written from Christian’s perspective…I would buy them!!! I would love to know what he was thinking, and try to further understand his agony! Please consider!

  41. avatar michelle reid says:

    Hi EL James,
    Congratulations on your books!
Love the books I have the audio books
and have listen to them so much I’ve lost track
of how many times ive listen to them now lol.
I also loved the way you ended it as it makes you
want to go back and start again, my husband
says are’nt you sick of them yet lol and I say
no! I wish he would listen to them ;) I
would love to hear more! I hope your next book/s
is as good as these with the romance, sex, and
have to say with bdsm. I loved the way you used
it, as some can be very shocking but you made
it very, very sexual / sensual and not to mean.

  42. avatar marcela1220 says:

WOOOWWW… ESTO ES GENIAL… POR FAVOR CUANDO LLEGA A COLOMBIA….eS EXCELENTE ESTA TRILOGIA…..

  43. avatar Robert says:

Dear E L James, it happens that I have all the music from your books and even more.
I enjoyed reading your books very much! I loved my friend, with whom I had apassionate relationship during 5 years, but who died from cancer of the bladder.

  45. avatar SimbaFL says:

I wish they were doing the complete soundtrack, classical and non classical. This way I could follow along as I read the books. Maybe after the movie comes out.

  46. avatar evaporationn says:

Love this, continuing to make my “reading “dreams come true. xx

  47. avatar Rosie says:

I AM SO EXCITED!!! I WAS JUST THINKING ABOUT READING THE BOOKS AGAIN…BUT WITH THE MUSIC COMING OUT I THINK I WILL WAIT FOR THE CD. I WOULD LOVE TO READ THE BOOK WITH THE MUSIC GOING…CANT WAIT…
